Goodtime Boys at Fun Factory

New Cardiff band Goodtime Boys played their first show last night. The description of the show as “Goodtime Boys at Fun Factory” is akin to calling a pissed-off bear, shark, wolf, tiger and killer whale in a wrestling ring “a family day at the zoo”. They were amazing, especially for their first outing. A 16 minute set left the band breathless – but that is testament to their show as opposed to their fitness levels I promise you.
For anyone who knows us – you may recognise the flat-capped birthday boy in the picture as Barely Regal’s very own Matt Fidler! I thought I had better blog about Goodtime Boys today as Matt is far too modest to say how good his own band were. As you can see from the photo, it was a show to remember.
Although they don’t have any tracks up on their myspace yet, they’ve recorded a demo with Gethin Pearson last week, so watch out for this band. Rumour has it they’re due to feature a track on the much anticipated Barely Regal compilation next year…
In other news, this week is a particularly busy week for shows in Cardiff. Tough decisions will have to made, unless some Swn-style venue hopping is possible. Here’s a quick list:
Tuesday 1st Dec – ethereal lovliness from New York The Antlers at Clwb Ifor Bach
Wednesday 2nd Dec – BSM-friendly lineup of Kevin Devine, Shoes and Socks Off, and Cardiff’s very own Rescue Party ,again all at Clwb Ifor Bach
Wednesday 2nd Dec – Gay For Johnny Depp, supported by Blakfish and Outcry Collective at Barlyfly.
Damn! BSM labelmates Kevine Devine and Blakfish playing different shows in the same city. There is no god.
Thursday 3rd Dec – Good Shoes, supported by Wild Palms and Barely Regal favourites The Muscle Club at Clwb Ifor Bach
Thursday 3rd Dec – Bear Driver, Nedry, Hail! The Planes (who we like very much) and Zwolf.
Their needs to be a gig-overlord who rules that two excellent gigs cannot be put on at the same time. For a person who struggles with the decision between coffee and tea at least 5 times a day, I’m in trouble this week. Any help?!
I was unsure as to how to finish this blog post, it being my first (!), so I checked back over Matt’s posts. I think this is how it goes…
